About The CNCL

The Lao Coffee Board (LCB or CNCL) is the inter-professional body entitled to represent the whole Lao coffee sector. Officially created by Prime Ministry decree no 085/ PM, dated on the 25th of June 2010.

The CNCL gathers each category of public and private stakeholders involved in the coffee value chain with the core mandate of ensuring political and institutional steering of the National Strategy for Lao Coffee Development and Promotion (LCSDS).

To do so and as a deliberation instance, the CNCL implements activities through its executive team (the Coordination and Monitoring Unit) and promotes the creation of specific taskforces in charge of sub-projects conception, following up, and related partnerships building or fund raising.

Originally, CNCL’s main objectives are to

Pilot a strategic action, a national policy to develop and to promote Lao coffee.

Pilot, support and monitor associations, cooperatives, producers groups in the implementation of national policy, related laws.

Study and submit a policy in terms of protection, promotion and development to be approved by the GoL.

Analyze the situation and identify keys issues, inform on markets and prices, new technologies enabling an increased value added, reducing investments costs and improve producers incomes.

Coordinate, raise funds and experiences from national and international bodies.

Such goals were endorsed and lead to the launching of a global process at the sector scale aiming an improve structure and the definition of intervention axis.

The recent progresses operated in Lao coffee sector organization and advocacy indicate a relevant move toward more federative approach and efficiency in value chain management. With coming initiatives and improved consultation process, the CNCL go further in reinforcement of sector structure and notoriety in the international context.
